She is one of about 9,000 teachers with Teach for America in more than 40 rural and low-income urban areas. Natalie Lucas, a spokesperson for the organization, says many low-income children lag behind academically. Teach for America is addressing this need to have highly effective teachers and a community of educators behind their students.
