I'm the coordinator of the school psychology program. This is a post-baccalaureate program. Sometimes students enter directly after completing their undergraduate degree, while others have a master's degree and then enter our post-master's program. All students come because they're interested in becoming school psychologists. Along the way to getting certified in school psychology, they complete 64 graduate credits. Certification occurs through the Department of Education in Pennsylvania. When students finish, they'll have a Master's of Science degree and a certification recommendation in school psychology in Pennsylvania. Our program does not only teach assessments and tests. We emphasize interventions that can be done in the school and at home. We have a consultative model where we help teachers develop their skills in working with students. One thing that makes our students strong is their comprehensive approach to helping children achieve academic success. When our students leave, they are ready to meet the expectations of school districts. Our students gain a lot of field placements during their time here, and they culminate with a full-year internship. Students often mention that they chose Millersville after seeing that we are approved by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). This national approval process sets standards that often exceed state standards. By having higher standards, we ensure that our students are held to a higher standard, and incoming students appreciate that. It's not uncommon for students to hear great things about our program from principals and teachers, which reinforces their decision to apply here.
